To me, "being well" is not just about living healthily and feeling good. It's also not a static end goal, one-and-done situation.
Being well is a dynamic process! It's about continuous learning, tinkering, and adapting to inevitable change as we go through various phases of life -- from milestone birthdays and retirements to pursuing higher education to the loss of a loved one to welcoming new additions to the family, and every mundane detail in between.

I have set out to meet you wherever you're at in life and to hold a safe space for you to not only become clear on what you truly want for your health, but also to start taking those crucial first steps (and eventually leaps!) to bringing your health vision to fruition.

Let me guess -- your doctor tells you every visit that you need to exercise more, eat more fruits and vegetables, lose weight, sleep better, and... yes, they said it again... REDUCE STRESS! Then, they sent you on your merry way, saying "See you at your next visit where we hope to see improvement!" By the time you reach your next visit (if you ever muster up the courage to book or keep the appointment with all that life has thrown at you), your health status is the same, if not worse. Why does this happen?

We put things off (hello, Procrastination!)

We set unclear and unrealistic goals (so, naturally, we have no idea how to get from point A to Z)

We rely solely on motivation vs. fostering discipline

We lack accountability

We lack persistence and grit

We're waiting for the perfect moment

We fail to fully consider our WHY

We're scared of change.

This doesn't have to be you anymore. Book your free consult today!

MY STORY

I am Jennifer Diemunsch.

First and foremost, my greatest roles in life are Mother, Wife, and Sister.

As for my path to health coaching, it consists mainly of two parts:
My professional career, and my personal growth and health journey.

Born and raised in Southern California, I moved to the Bay Area in 2011. I studied Public Health mainly out of convenience and later realized what a pivotal decision it would be in shaping my outlook on life. If you're unfamiliar, the concept of public health is deeply rooted in understanding why and how problems arise, from a holistic point of view. It considers the impact of living conditions and the environment on our health behaviors and outcomes... which, I get it, sounds like a no-brainer. But! Consciously adopting this mindset was a catalyst to exploring how I could effect long-term, positive change for both myself and those around me. It's really the opposite of a surface-level, quick-fix, slap-a-Band-Aid-on-it approach.

I loved this whole-person perspective.

Like so many in their 20s, I started to ask myself what I truly wanted in life, how I could live authentically and without regret, and how I could spread goodness in the world and live out my passions simultaneously. I settled on pursuing a nursing degree and had nothing short of a life-changing experience in 2018 when I worked as a certified nurse assistant at a memory care facility in Berkeley. I developed a love for the residents who became my family, even though - if asked - they likely wouldn't remember who I was. With residents passing away each month, this job took a heavy toll on my physical, mental, and emotional health. Every day I spent there, the reminder of our fragile existence hit me like a ton of bricks. However, as a result, my capacity for compassion and empathy increased exponentially. I realized the power of deep emotional connection in healing the soul.

I thought more and more about my ikigai (a Japanese term for "reason for living"). I knew that I loved many facets of health: physical fitness, nutrition, and mental health, in particular. Burnt out from my job as a CNA and ready to restore my mental health, I found a job working as a fitness coach at my local YMCA. I continued working while taking community college classes in pursuit of nursing school. Fast forward to completing my nursing degree, I took my first nursing job at an outpatient, primary care clinic in Oakland just before the pandemic hit. I grew in ways I couldn't have imagined, especially in communication and setting healthy boundaries.

As for a snippet of my own health journey, I had wanted to become a mother since I was a child, so when trying to conceive, I was taken aback by a diagnosis of "unexplained infertility" and PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome: a condition involving hormonal imbalance). Fertility "treatment" involved countless IUIs, expensive medications, pelvic ultrasounds, and a whole lot of negative pregnancy tests. I eventually paid out-of-pocket for a holistic fertility doctor who turned my world upside down with a food sensitivity blood test that assessed my body's immune response to 200 common foods. I detoxed, learned to heal my gut, and eventually adjusted to a gluten-free, dairy-free, no-added-sugar diet. I learned how difficult it is to 1) avoid cane sugar (why is it in literally everything?!); and 2) consistently and sustainably eat nutrient-rich, anti-inflammatory meals in the United States! My anxiety and perfectionistic tendencies made this lifestyle change all the more challenging, but I proved resilient and was eventually blessed with my miracle.

As a teacher, mentor, and nurse to those from 3 to 100+ years old, my passion is to serve. Combined with my mission to be well and empower others to do the same, health coaching is a natural fit. In my experience, many underestimate how much they can achieve and therefore never end up trying. I am the coach who will guide you to living your best life by asking the right questions.

In asking yourself whether a health coach is right for you, I ask that you imagine the possibilities for your one and only life.
